It is stated within the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 that all employers have a legal duty to provide a safe working environment for their employees, visitors and or any contractors who visit their site. The safety of your employees and visitors is largely in your control and you as the employer have a legal duty to prevent any harm coming to either party, and ensuring that all electrical equipment used in the workplace is fully maintained, and for that reason these compliance checks are in place.

Our Engineers will test anywhere from 25-35 items per hour on average. The accessibility of the appliance and its plug top will often determine the speed of the tests.

The answer is yes. Large items are still considered portable appliances if the item has a plug top.

IEC leads (kettle leads), detachable power leads and extension leads must be treated as separate items as they are in many cases interchangeable. It is more common for the fault to lie in these leads as they incur the most wear and tear.

Our PAT engineers cause minimal disruption to most working environments. Testing occurs one item at a time which results in very little down time for equipment and staff.

To properly carry out a PAT test equipment must be unplugged in order for the plug top to be opened and inspected. The insulation and earth continuity tests will require the appliance to be plugged into our electronic PAT testers.
